Personal branding will take you further than just submitting a resume in today’s job market. As with product branding, when it comes to personal branding, the first steps are to develop a presence and make others aware of it. When it comes to your LinkedIn profile, there are some things you can do to help you  get your name out there … by promoting your LinkedIn profile in the right places.

Your email signature

Including your LinkedIn URL in your email signature is one of the best ways to promote your profile.

Your bio

In the “about me” section of your social profiles and personal blog, include a message inviting readers to connect with you on LinkedIn, and hyperlink the URL.

Your business card

Even if you’re currently employed, have a separate personal business card to use for personal networking endeavors.

In your comments on other people’s blog posts

If a reader likes what you have to say, sharing your profile link will give them an opportunity to connect with you and stay in touch.

LinkedIn group discussions

If you haven’t already, join industry-related groups and introduce yourself — LinkedIn will automatically link to your profile. Participate in group discussions, using sources like new studies, statistics, and white papers to back up what you say. Ask questions and share your opinion to inspire discussions. As you build relationships with other group members, invite them to connect with you.
